The Ramona Bowl All Star Band is a community band that was started in 2014. The band director, TJ Hepburn, had been working on making the trip to the London New Year’s Day Parade a reality for several years when the Ramona Bowl offered to sponsor the community band. Once the Ramona Bowl was on board, students were needed! Current band students as well as recently graduated band students from across the San Jacinto Valley signed up to take part in the inaugural Ramona Bowl All Star Band for the opportunity to march in the London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1, 2016.
On September 27, 2014, the Ramona Bowl All Star Band was officially extended an invitation to attend the London New Year’s Day Parade. The ceremony took place at the Ramona Bowl. City officials from San Jacinto and Hemet were present, the Ramona Bowl All Star Band performed and some actors from the Ramona Pageant were there to participate in the announcement ceremony. Presenting the invitation were several Parade organizers and Catherine Longworth, former Lord Mayor of Westminster, who announced the official invitation. The answer was, of course, YES!
On January 1, 2016, the Band performed in the London New Year’s Day Parade! The Parade is one of the largest in the world, with over 10,000 performers from all over the world. Just for comparison, the London New Year’s Day Parade has twice as many participants as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. It is watched by millions of people worldwide.
